We will also look at the rise of Sonata-kind, the Sonata itself, Haydn’s invention of the string quartet and the symphony, and the altering house of opera – most notably within the work of Mozart. The first of these tendencies was born in Florence, amongst a group of musicians and philosophers known as the Florentine Camerata (“camerata” = chamber, as in a “chamber of commerce”).
